THIS POSITION WILL BE ON-SITE AT MT. SINAI HOSPITAL IN CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.

Xtend Healthcare is looking for a Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist.  The position is responsible for performing various technical functions including medical record review, analysis, transcription processing, birth and death certificate processing/completion, record completion, Mater Patient Index (MPI) integrity maintenance, medical record processing to include, but not limited to release of information, prep records and scanning/indexing, Quality Assurance (QA) for scanning, retrieval and filing of records, and other duties as assigned.

JOB SUMMARY:

1.  Performs HIM Technician work as assigned as their major responsibilities:      

Check appropriate functions/duties

  • Medical record review/performance improvement
  • Medical record analysis
  • Transcription processing
  • Birth certificate processing
  • Death certificate processing
  • Record completion duties
  • MPI integrity maintenance
  • Prep/Scanning/Indexing/QA
  • Release of Information
  • Other duties, as assigned

2.  Provides coverage for HIM department as needed                            

  • Check appropriate functions/duties
  • Medical record review/performance improvement
  • Medical record analysis

3.  Performs customer service activities     

  • Answering telephones
  • Follow up with physician/physician office calls
  • Follow up with Business Office calls
  • Follow up with other Department calls

4. Record Keeping    

  • Maintain daily productivity reports and submit timely

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma
  • 2-3 years of progressive experience in a hospital setting (additional equivalent experience above the required minimum may substitute for the required level of experience)
  • Electronic health record (EHR) experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Transcription processing
  • Birth certificate processing  
  • Death certificate processing
  • Record completion duties
  • MPI integrity maintenance
  • Prep/Scanning/Indexing/QA
  • Release of Information
  • Other duties, as assigned
