THIS POSITION IS HYBRID ( 3 DAYS/WEEK ON-SITE AT MT. SINAI HOSPITAL, IN CHICAGO, IL./REMOTE 2 DAYS/WEEK)
Xtend Healthcare is looking for a Clinical Documentation Improvement Supervisor. This position supervises activities of the Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) functions and CDI specialists by:
Leading the monitoring of performance, collection and analysis of data to report on the effectiveness of process improvement.
Collecting and analyzing data to provide reports for HIM Department and hospital wide use and to make recommendations as appropriate.
Assisting in the planning, development and implementation, and ongoing success of the CDI Program.
Educating HIM CDI specialists, HIM coders, and members of the patient care team regarding documentation guidelines, including attending physicians, nursing, and other interdisciplinary team members.
The CDI Supervisor must exhibit expertise in all aspects of health information management with knowledge and expertise in coding (ICD-10-CM & PCS, CPT, MS-DRGS, APRG-DRGs, HCCs) for acute care hospitals, skill nursing facilities, swing beds, hospice, and inpatient rehab facilities. A high level of knowledge of physician specialty medical practices is also a plus. Understanding and communicating differences between Medicare Part A and Part B guidelines and how they impact MS-DRGs and APR-DRGs is required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree or specialized HIM degree (RHIA or RHIT) or Nursing degree.
A plus if: RN, and/or CCDS, and/or CCDIS; CDIP (Certified Documentation Improvement Professional).
Five years hands-on experience in the healthcare industry is required – both in CDI services and healthcare services management. (Additional equivalent education above the required minimum may substitute for the required level of experience.)
Two (2) + years’ experience in a leadership role in the healthcare industry.
Credentialed through AHIMA and/or ACDIS.
Working knowledge of ICD10 CM & PCS, CPT, MS-DRGs, APR-DRGs; Electronic health record (EHR) expertise, including knowledge of a variety of vendors.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
An understanding of healthcare billing practices and compliant claims preparation for both governmental and commercial payers.
Graduate from a Nursing program, BSN or graduate of Health Information Management, RHIT, RHIA
knowledge of HCC’s.
Experience with Case Management, Utilization Review.
Experience with encoders; experience with CAC software.
Experience with auditing.
Experience with denials management and writing appeals.
Working knowledge of CDI “best practices.”
Able to interact positively with physicians and staff, understand their needs in the respective areas of healthcare.
