Computer Operations Technician III
Apply NowThis is a 12 Hour nightshift position: Saturday, Sunday, Monday and every other Tuesday 9:30 PM to 9:30 AM. Holidays and weekends required.
This position allows for a rotating hybrid (remote) location after training.
The Computer Operations Technician III is an advanced level role, providing onsite support of our Data Center Operations. Under the general direction of the Supervisor, Computer Operations, the Operations Technician III performs a variety of tasks including: computer operations in a multi-processing multi-platform-computing environment; monitor the batch production processing; ensure online availability schedules are met; escalate critical processing issues as appropriate, keep DCO management apprised of operations state; produces required logs, records, and reports; and provides assistance to junior members of the staff.Our ideal candidate has substantial knowledge in data center operations and exercises considerable independence of judgement in performing job duties.the ability to acquire necessary knowledge to operate computer systems in a large data center; follow manuals, read complicated instructions, understand and carry out verbal and written instructions, and communicate effectively in written and verbal form.
Areas of Responsibility:
MVS Operations
- Ensure the production processing schedules are met.
- Ensure online availability Service Level Agreements are met.
- Acquire knowledge of key business applications, relationships, and interdependencies with other business applications and processes.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of disaster recovery procedures.
- Ensure that auditing controls, procedures, and processes are followed completely, accurately, and turned over.
Midrange and Open Systems Operations
- Operate and monitor Unix and Windows computer systems and related equipment.
- Ensure the production processing schedules are met. Ensure online availability Service Level Agreements are met.
- Acquire knowledge of key business applications, relationships, and interdependencies with other business applications and processes.
- Ensure that auditing controls, procedures, and processes are followed completely, accurately, and turned over.
Problem Management
- Ensure all application, system software, hardware and environmental issues are logged in Service Now.
- Ensure all critical application, system software, hardware, and environmental issues are logged in NewStat.
- Ensure escalation procedures are followed for critical application issues affecting the production schedule.
- Ensure all problem management procedures are followed.
- Ensure problems and concerns, both operational and staff, are communicated promptly to the Supervisors.
- Assist developers, DBA, and systems staff as appropriate to resolve issues.
Communications
- Create, monitor, and maintain operations documentation.
- Ensure staff is kept abreast of all procedural and technical changes.
- Maintain accurate data records and filing systems relevant to operational records and reports.
- Ensure all shift and applications logs are completed in an accurately and timely manner.
- Provide for smooth shift changes by adequately transitioning all activities.
- Work cooperatively with various areas of Information Technology.
Leadership and Direction
- Assist Supervisor with daily shift responsibilities.
- Lead Computer Operations when the Supervisor and Senior Operations Technician is away.
- Assist Director of Computer Operations as needed.
- Assist junior staff members in mastering technical and procedural matters.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- College level course work- Business, Computer Tech, or Computer Science fields (Additional experience may substitute).
- 3 – 5 years of Experience working with Software scheduling packages similar to Automic/One Automation.
- 3 – 5 years of Experience working in a Computer Operations of Data Center environment.
Ability to work weekends as part of normal 24/7 and 12 hour shift operation schedule, occasional holidays and overtime as required.
This position will support a federal government contract. Applicants must be able to obtain Public Trust security clearance as required of federal government contractors to include a background check conducted by the U.S. Government to determine eligibility and suitability for federal contract employment for public trust or sensitive positions. For this level of clearance, applicants must possess U.S. citizenship.
