The Building Services Tech will perform maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and operation of the electrical, mechanical, plumbing and Building Automation systems. Operate the fire alarm system, fire suppression system, and data room electrical and air conditioning systems. Construct and maintain the workstation and wall systems at assigned site(s). Monitor various contracted services and work. Perform skilled building repairs and construction related services including drywall, flooring, painting, wood finishing, locksmith duties, roof inspections, caulking, interior and exterior inspections including parking lots. Act on behalf of supervisor, in their absence, by carrying out facility policy and guidelines and interfacing with the landlord/property manager in leased properties.


General Repair and Maintenance:

  • Conduct wall repair and construction; includes framing, dry walling, painting, repairs to drywall and vinyl wall covering.
  • Replace or repair flooring; includes carpeting, vinyl flooring, vinyl composite tile, rubber radial tiles, ceramic tile and cove base installation.
  • Repair woodwork and wood furniture finishes.
  • Maintain and repair miscellaneous items such as ceiling tiles, window coverings, windows and exterior envelope.
  • Run conduit, pull wire, install equipment to support any changes or additions to the buildings systems.
  • Provide maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and installation of miscellaneous mechanical systems and equipment such as humidifiers, domestic hot water system, flush valves, fixtures, drains, and drain lines, pump packages, and water softeners.
  • When running, monitor and record reading of the back-up generator(s) if equipped.
  • Routinely monitor and record readings on all data room Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS).
  • Routinely monitor and record temperatures from data room HVAC units.
  • Oversee vendors for any general interior or exterior repairs. Monitor janitorial, landscaping, shredding, pest control, vending and other assigned contracted services.
  • Coordinate with landlord those above items that fall under their responsibility.

Systems Furniture/Walland Relocation:

  • Construct and disassemble systems workstations, panels, components and electrical.
  • Maintain inventory, transport and stage furniture/wall product.
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues in workstation and wall systems.
  • Oversee systems furniture/wall contractors when required.
  • Repair systems and free-standing furniture including hydraulics, chair arms, casters, drawers, wood touch up and all non-warranty items.
  • Coordinate relocation of furniture and boxes for internal moves as coordinated with Space Planning, acting as customer liaison.
  • Hang items on walls after determining best method while ensuring the least amount of wall damage.


  • Maintain integrity of Master keying system and make appropriate adjustments when necessary.
  • Maintain proper key hierarchy throughout the facility.
  • Work in conjunction with Facilities Help Desk to maintain documented and proper key control, including key audits required for compliance.
  • Make and/or duplicate keys as required.
  • Install and remove door hardware; including handles, closures, and crash bars.
  • Repair and maintain all door hardware and furniture key systems.
  • Coordinate all overhead dock/garage door repairs.
  • Coordinate with landlord those above items that fall under their responsibility.

Miscellaneous Duties:

  • Research materials and supplies for various jobs, utilizing the appropriate products for each task performed, focusing on cost effectiveness.
  • Assist with system printing and printer maintenance, if assigned.
  • Assist with snow removal as required.
  • If leased facility, coordinate landlord activities to limit disruptions and fit our business needs.
  • Be on-call 24/7.


  • Speak so that others may understand at normal levels and on the telephone
  • HS Diploma/ GED/ equivalent
  • 3+ years' experience in construction, carpentry and/ or building maintenance (Additional education may substitute)
  • Valid in-state driver's license
  • Must be able to work extended hours at times
  • Physical abilities:
  • Handle moderate to heavy pieces of equipment
  • Lift 50 lbs. unassisted
  • Work at heights up to 25 feet and be able to climb a ladder
  • Work in tight space
  • Move with a moderate degree of dexterity
  • Work under a high degree of physical exertion
  • See and read computer monitor and printed material with or without vision aids
  • Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone with or without hearing aids


  • Basic knowledge of electricity
  • Ability to read and work from detailed blueprints

  • Working knowledge/experience in multiple floor finishes/repairs
  • Knowledge/experience in masonry repair

  • Knowledge of wall covering applications including painted and vinyl surfaces
  • Must be able to work flexible schedules at times
