The Sr Director, Health Information Management (HIM) is responsible for middle revenue cycle covering HIM consulting, hospital-based and physician-based coding, coding edits, review and audits for clients, managing HIM RCOs (Revenue Cycle Outsourcing), denials & appeals management, interim HIM and Coding management, and special HIM related projects, for design and development of cost effective and sustainable solutions to meet Xtend’s and client business requirements. The Sr Director, HIM will be assigned to multiple client pursuits simultaneously with involvement in multiple stages of the client integration and on-boarding process as described in the Essential Job Functions Section.
The Sr Director will work closely with Xtend’s sales team with identifying potential sales, responding to RFPs and proposal writing, sales presentations, and generating contract language and Task Order language. Throughout the deal pursuit through the on-boarding and integration phases the Sr Director, HIM acts as a primary “source of truth” with regard to the assigned client engagements. As such, this is a highly visible role within Xtend requiring a broad understanding of functional areas and the inter-dependencies between them. This is also a client facing role requiring the ability to establish rapport quickly and maintain positive working relationships in a wide variety of settings with a diversity of stakeholder perspectives.
This position will manage all HIM-related engagements, and when applicable, the coordination between Xtend’s various stakeholders by evaluating how they connect, communicate, and collaborate on each project. Responsibilities include applying their healthcare HIM and RCM (Revenue Cycle Management) expertise regarding best practice workflows and identifying areas of opportunity to implement efficiencies within each engagement. This position will lead internal efforts to optimize efficiency assisting operations in the achievement of key performance indicators enabling both Xtend's and our customer’s financial expectations to be met. The role will consolidate and analyze financial data, taking into account company’s goals and financial standing by assembling and summarizing data to structure sophisticated reports on the businesses financial status. Analytical and critical thinking skills, plus the ability to make connections between separate initiatives is important.
The Sr Director, HIM will analyze past, future and comparative performance data to develop forecast models. These forecasts will be used as a blueprint for course corrections (as needed) on existing engagements as well as to improve our modeling capabilities for future business opportunities. The position will identify client needs and make suggestions for appropriate service enhancements and customized solutions necessary to build long-term customer relationships.
This position involves extensive matrix management of people from multiple departments. As such, they may be called on to carry out supervisory/management related activities in accordance with guidelines, policies, procedures and applicable laws. Key requirements include proficiency in spreadsheets and or databases, consistent effective communication with major stakeholders, thorough documentation, and client facing presentation skills. Analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to take initiative and persuade the organization to take action are a must.
- Bachelors Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business or related field.
- 12+ years of experience in HIM as a Director or Leader with credentials with AHIMA
- 10+ years supervising/leading people
- Minimum of 2 years experience with CDI
- Understanding ICD10 coding, ProFee coding, denials & appeals management
- Understanding of hospital revenue cycle processes
- Experience leading complex projects for senior and executive management
- Knowledge of ICD10, CPT, E&M, HCC coding principles and guidelines
- Experience or knowledge of professional based coding
- Experience with providing presentations at conferences and/or seminars
- Experience with various EMR systems, HIM-related software, CDI software
- Experience with revenue integrity a plus
