The Sr. Payroll Benefits Accountant is responsible for the accurate and timely preparation of journal entries, 401(k) payroll reconciliations and funding, reconciliations of multi-million dollar payroll, cash and benefits related accounts, and payroll financial reporting analysis. Responsibilities include preparation of payroll postings in accordance with GAAP and other corporate reporting requirements, general ledger account reconciliations, general ledger analysis and research, monitoring payroll cash and validate new payroll general ledger set-up.  Coordinates non-qualified plan contributions and distributions. Responsible for researching and communicating g/l account activity with management and other departments which can be complex and sensitive. The Sr. Payroll Benefits Accountant is also a key team member to provide input for new systems or upgrades as appropriate, monitoring systems for accuracy and communicating results.

The Sr. Payroll Benefits Accountant verifies data integrity and reconciles and posts all payrolls from ADP through the sub-ledger to main ledger. Accurately prepare monthly payroll accruals and allocations, resolve discrepancies timely, meet deadlines, and complete analysis to properly classify expenses as determined by current business need.  Must work independently and efficiently, anticipate and prepare for management questions and provide outstanding customer service throughout the organization and with third parties. Analyzes and completes numerous journal entries and account reconciliations. Responds to internal and external audit requests. Sr. Payroll Benefits Accountant is also responsible for timely completion of 401(k) reconciliations for accurate funding, reconciling deposits, analyzing payroll activity, data coordination with HR and third party vendor, preparing annual plan reporting, and assisting with audits.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree – Accounting or Business with Accounting concentration – additional experience may substitute for degree
  • 4-5 years of experience in accounting
  • Excellent analytical and deductive reasoning skills          
  • A working knowledge of payroll

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CPA certification helpful
  • Experience with large corporate accounting and payroll systems
  • Understanding of accounting for benefit plans, especially 401(k) plans
